Wine Room September Newsletter 2015

Opening Hours/ Wine by the Glass

Due to the excellent response to our introduction of wines by the glass we are now open until 10pm on Friday and Saturday evenings.

We have tables both inside and outside so you can enjoy a glass or two of delicious wine anytime we are open, rain or shine.

People are finding the wine room as a great alternative drinking den, ideal for pre-dinner drinks or a venue for getting together with a group of friends.

Hope to see you and your friends soon. Spread the word!

Southpaw Shiraz 2006

It’s back! After promising for awhile (OK a few years) that the popular Southpaw Shiraz from the vineyard we used to own in McLaren Vale in South Australia would return it is now in stock as of Wednesday 2nd September.

A rich, soft classic Australian Shiraz which is not too heavy and has a bit of age to it now. Plummy spicy fruit with savoury nuances, hints of licorice plus vanilla oak. Complex but very drinkable.

Wine Tastings in September

Our aim is to ensure our wine tastings are a relaxed way to learn a bit more about wine and to discover new taste sensations at a cost of just £15, which includes nibbles.

We also offer a 10% discount on all wines in the shop, not just the ones we taste, that are purchased on the evening. You can pick them up later at a more convenient time if you wish.

As spaces are limited please let me know as soon as possible if you wish to book some spots.

You can e-mail me at henry@wine-room.co.uk or phone on 01227 77 3141.

We ask you to pay upfront to secure your booking.

Obviously if you let us know prior to the tasting or have a genuine reason for not attending we will gladly refund your money.

Thursday 10th September 2015 at 8pm – South Africa

Although South Africa is referred to as a New World wine country it has been making wine since the 1600s. However it is currently in its most exciting stage of development with established estates striving for perfection and young turk winemakers pushing the boundaries.

Come and taste some of our diverse range of excellent South African wines.

Total Cost (including nibbles): £15

Thursday 24th September 2015 at 8pm – Wines made from Grape Varieties starting with G!

Some of the best and most interesting wine grape varieties happen to start with the letter G.

Therefore we thought it would be fun to have a tasting with wines such as Grenache Blanc, Garganega, Grecanico, Gruner Veltliner and Gewurztraminer in the whites and Grenache Noir and blends from France, Australia and Spain in the reds.

Total Cost (including nibbles): £15

New Arrivals

Domaine de la Denante – Saint-Veran 2013, Burgundy, France Price £15.99

This is an impressive white burgundy at an impressive price with peach, stonefruit and citrus flavours with a nice amount of creaminess and mineral tones. Fish or roast chicken.

Akarua Rose Brut NV, Central Otago, New Zealand Price £19.99

This is an excellent award winning sparkling rosé with plenty of flavour yet real finesse. There are strawberry and raspberry notes, some sherbert and creaminess then a long refreshing finish.

Akarua ‘Rua’ Pinot Noir 2013, Central Otago, New Zealand Price £19.99

Loads of generous soft strawberry and cherry fruit plus subtle spice and savoury notes which add complexity. Supple, drinkable and good value.

Stanley Estates Albarino 2014, Marlborough, New Zealand Price £17.99

We love the wines from Stanley Estates, produced by former resident of Canterbury, Kent, Steve Pellett and his wife Bridget Ennals.

They are the first to produce an Albariño in New Zealand, a grape originally from Galicia in North West Spain and gaining a strong following.

Sumptuous nectarine, lime and grapefruit flavours and a long refreshing and fruity finish. Very satisfying and can be drunk by itself or with seafood and poultry dishes.
